Let 2021 Breathe.

For some, it is an elegant Thursday, perhaps with a slight chill in the air, setting the mood just right for a cozy affair with close friends and family, bringing in the new year together. (Has to be close friends, considering COVID).

Few others are already working on their resolutions and vision boards for the new year (travel more, work hard, get rid of the post-holiday weight). And then, some are making a treat out of the day, camping, fishing, going on cruises, weekend trips, the works.

And then, here we are. Writing on Medium, like me perhaps, or binging on some sitcom we know by rote at this time, or possibly starting something new, flipping through TV channels, getting some full-on action with pizza and coke, lying on our beds in full glory and watching other people enjoy and have fun on Instagram stories and wondering ‘How do these people manage to do it all…How are they even out…just how?’

Don’t get me wrong, I love holidays, I love New Year’s Eve, especially because it brings a prospect of a do-over at the end of every 365 so days, more this year, because of what a year it has been. You do not need me to tell you that. I am as optimistic as you are, about 2021.

Granted, 2021 is going to be our year. The vaccine comes out, and soon everything will be alright in the world. But are we not making 2021 overwhelming? Are we not putting unnecessary pressure on 2021, like some over-ambitious parent, who burdens their kid with lots of unrealistic expectations and unachieved dreams of their own?

Lots of expectations.

Lots of pressure.

Lots of unwarranted advice.

Come now people, let’s not forget 2020 has taught us to be patient, to realize that everything is not in our control, to let go. Let’s not burden 2021 unnecessarily. It’s a new year, hurrah!

Do your thing. Write, paint, take lots of aesthetic pictures, post them, go vegan, clear out your clutter, hustle, relax, spend time with your close ones, indulge in lots of good food, and lastly, take care of yourself. You do you.

And in the end, I’d just like to say…

2021’s going to be our year!
